The National Cancer Institute has reapproved the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UC Irvine as one of 40 comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S. Comprehensive centers are chosen for their commitment to integrated research, prevention, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation programs. The designation is the highest honor given by the NCI in recognition of excellence in cancer research and treatment. The Chao center first received comprehensive status in 1997 and is the only facility of its kind in Orange County. "This is a great testament to our faculty, staff and community supporters who are committed to finding new and improved preventions and treatments for cancer," says center director Dr. Frank L.
